Intel Submits Design Patent for a Foldable SmartPhone

As more phone manufacturers tease the future of foldable phones, LetsGoDigital recently discovered a US patent submitted by Intel for an “electronic device with foldable display panels”.

The patent, submitted in mid-2017, features twenty-eight illustrations showing a smartphone / tablet with tri-fold displays in various use cases and a stylus pen.

Samsung is anticipated to release a foldable phone to market sometime in Q2 of 2019. Rumored to be dubbed either the Galaxy X or Galaxy F, it’s expected to feature a 4.5-inch display that opens to 7.3-inches. Samsung gave us a peek of a prototype during their developers conference just last November.

Huawei and Xiaomi have also been confirmed to be releasing foldable phones sometime in 2019. Even Apple and Microsoft are rumored to be following the trend soon. Apple filed an initial patent in 2013 that’s been extended over the years and Microsoft is expected to release a smartphone under the Surface line sometime in the near future.

No word if the Intel phone is actually in the works, but the following renders by LetsGoDigital give us an idea of what it could look like.
